Conference venue

The Population Register Centre of Finland welcomes you to the Porvoo 10 Anniversary Conference! The conference will be held on 2-3 November 2006 at Hotel Haikko Manor in the city of Porvoo where the Porvoo Group first came into being.

Porvoo is situated on the coast of the Gulf of Finland some 50 kilometres east of Helsinki. The city has a population of almost 50 000. Haikko Manor lies some 7 kilometres outside Porvoo, approximately 30 minutes by car from Helsinki and Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. The easiest way to get from the airport to the Hotel Haikko is by taxi, which costs approximately 63 euros.

Registration

All delegates are asked to fill in the registration form which can be found under Registration. The registration to the Porvoo 10 Conference does not include hotel bookings, which must be made separately. Please see under Accommodation.

Accommodation

Delegates may stay at Hotel Haikko Manor or hotels in the city of Porvoo. More information on hotels is available under Accommodation.

We recommend early booking of hotel rooms.

Hotel Haikko Spa services

Spa & Conference Hotel features Wellness, Beauty and Fitness Centers as well as Sauna and Pool Departments. Persons not staying at Hotel Haikko are charged €12/person for use of the Sauna and Pool Departments. Please consult the price list for rates of the Spa and beauty treatments. Gala dinner

A gala dinner will be held at Kiiala Manor on the evening of the first day of the conference on 2 November 2006. The manor is located some three kilometres from downtown Porvoo and some ten kilometres from Hotel Haikko Manor. A shuttle bus will be provided for the 15-minutes trip between Haikko and Kiiala Manor.

Kiiala Manor is situated north of Porvoo in a setting of fertile fields. The manor is one of the largest working farms in Finland with grain crops, sugar beet and hay grown on the 400 hectares of agricultural land surrounding the manor proper.

The history of the manor dates back to the 15th century. The current manor house was commissioned in 1796 by General Carl Johan Adlercreutz (b. 1757). Kiiala Manor is also the birthplace of renowned Finnish artist Albert Edelfelt, born there in 1854.

Over the centuries, the manor has been held by several families, each of whom have enriched the whole with their individual contributions. For example, the massive distillery on the premises bears witness to the industrial heyday of bygone years. Kiiala Manor has been held by the family of honorary mining counsellor Göran J. Ehrnrooth since the 1920s. The last few decades have seen extensive modernisation and refurbishment as well as the introduction of new amenities: the former distillery now houses a shop and elegant function rooms.

Currency

The currency of Finland is the euro. Currency may be exchanged at banks, exchange bureaux and Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. International credit cards (American Express, Visa, Eurocard, MasterCard and Diners) are widely accepted at hotels, in stores, restaurants and most taxis.

Shopping

Stores are generally open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 8 pm. On Saturdays, stores close between 4 pm and 6 pm.

Drinking water

Tap water is drinkable in Finland.
